Tilly Models

Jan 24, 2025

The kits of Tilly models are different from the average kits of Kibri, Pola, Faller and Volmer, for example, instead of colored plastic parts, the Tilly model kits consist of cast resin, the same material as Artitec uses in their kits. Working with and building with this material is done in a completely different way than with the classic construction sets. The built model must also be painted. Despite the fact that in the beginning it seems difficult to build these kits, it is not that bad. The result is even more beautiful than a classic construction kit.

This article is about building with Tilly models kits, and in particular the set “station Zetten-Andelst”. Despite the fact that the same type of cast resin is used as at Artitec, building a Tilly models kit is easier and faster. The big difference with Artitec is in the way the parts are cast. While these are cast flat at Artitec so that the part is detailed on one side, the parts at Tilly models are cast upright so that not only both sides are detailed, but also much less preparatory work, such as sanding and (adjusting) filing, is required.

I think my first acquaintance with Tilly models was in 2003. This was by exchanging with an American product for 2 Tilly models kits. Later there was an exchange for a Mastica hondekop trainset conversion kit, (original Lima train set) also for 2 Tilly models.

I bought about 12 Tilly models in the summer vacation of 2005 and I will place all these kits in this article. Since I have yet to start building the station set, although the first walls of the station itself are already assembled, this article will be expanded at certain times.

The outbuilding and the trackman’s house.

The station.

The box with all the beauty inside.

The walls of the station are already in place.
